“Never in my wildest dreams…” - Brandy
We are Zakkee and Shaista, Co-Founders of Allegory Chai.
We are SO proud to bring you authentic, traditionally made chai for the modern world. Merging our Canadian identity with our Indian culture, we have created small-batch traditional chais that are READY to drink in bottle and growler form.
Why did we do this?
Shaista grew up making chai for her and her mom. Her mom was a single parent and she often looked forward to a cup of chai after a long day. When Shaista was 23, she was diagnosed with Crohn's disease, an auto-immune illness where the body attacks the intestines. After almost dying due to a large perforation in her intestine, and having 7 surgeries in 9 years, Shaista felt a calling.
She started making chai with lactose-free milk as she was not able to digest dairy the same way. Making traditional chai is a process. After many experiments, she found a perfect recipe for chai that she could enjoy and was easy on the stomach.
Although Zakkee didn't drink chai before he started dating Shaista, he now is a chai maker and connoisseur.
Allegory Chai is a wild dream because Zakkee told a shy, insecure Shaista that she should go after the calling she felt. He helped build the company with Shaista from the ground up while she was pregnant with their first child. He runs the numbers for the company, streamlines the operations and so much more for one reason: he believes that everyone has a calling that is big and scary, and that ANYTHING is possible. He has overcome a number of personal mental health struggles and uses his voice to help others pursue their dreams.
Allegory Chai is small-batch traditional and authentic, perfectly sweetened and spiced easy-on-the-stomach chai. It's a luxurious taste of Indian culture with a modern touch that's easy to bring on the go.
It is an honour to make you chai.
